MAGAZINE MADNESS

Come join the conversation at The Mod Squad Challenge Facebook Group. Lots of tips on this technique!

Good morning! Judy Woodland here for another Mod Squad challenge. This week we are going to do something different. I am challenging you to use a magazine, gift catalog, or any other periodical you may have lying around.

Something from a magazine has to be somewhere on your card. You can use it just as a background, as in this card where I used a seed catalog and cut out a lovely floral image. It is layered on GKD Wild Orchid, Black Onyx and White card stock, and the stamp is from Inspired By Stamping, Beautiful Iris. I colored it with Prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits.

Or, you can do a little fussy cutting, as I have done here on this next card. For this one I cut out a stone brooch and some metal jewelry leaves I found in a gift catalog. It's adhered to a piece of GKD Ivory card stock and layered on GKD Sweet Mango card stock. The flourishes are by HOTP, and the sentiment is from GKD Lovely Labels stamp set. The stamped images are heat embossed with GKD gold embossing powder.

Now if you want to get really creative, you can fussy cut a whole bunch of different shapes and make a collage or scene, as I have done with this last card. For this one I used my Brusho Crystal Colors and a white gel pen to make the starry background, and found several shapes and images for the scene. The greeting is from GKD Fanciful Tags stamp set.

So have some fun with it, you may never look at a magazine in the same way again!! And just a tip - if you glue your magazine image to a piece of card stock before you fussy cut you will have something that's a little more substantial to work with.
